12 Apr My search for Spirituality
I never was a spiritual or religious type of person. When I once was watching a movie on TV someone said something like this: “if you don’t believe in a higher force, whatever that may be, what are you living for?” That touched me. What AM I living for?
What AM I living for… It set things in motion. I started reading books about spirituality, I watched series like Sense8 and The Gift and turned to youtube for meditations…
Then I heard someone talk about different forms of consciousness.
– Our body. It is the body we experience the world with. When we look at the world from our bodies, we are just a tiny, tiny speck in the galaxy. We are individuals.
– Our ego. It is the head with our thoughts. It is as big as the ego makes us. Experiencing this world that way, still makes us individuals.
– Our heart. It is bigger than ‘I’. We are not individuals, we are connected to everything and each other. We are the universe.
(There are also other forms of consciousness, like our emotions and our aura)
The thing is, we are individuals. But, we are part of a bigger picture, connected to everything around us.
Let me tell you about a book I’ve read: The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho
The book tells the story of a shepherd who sells his sheep in order to find his Mission on Earth. Which is rather daring because his sheep are his everything.
During his travels he learns about his Mission on Earth. What it means, where it comes from, how he is connected to everything and everyone and how he can understand the Soul of the Universe.
Let me share a few quotes with you that I believe are fantastic:
‘The soul of the universe is nourished by people’s happiness. Also by unhappiness, envy and jealousy. To realize one’s mission on earth is a person’s only real obligation. When you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it’
‘Intuition is really a sudden immersion of the soul into the universal current of life, where the histories of all people are connected, and we are able to know everything, because it’s all written there’
‘We are afraid of losing what we have, whether it’s our life or our possessions and property. But this fear evaporated when we understand that our life story and the history of the world were written by the same hand‘
‘The world has a soul, and whoever understands that soul can also understand the language of things‘
What I find beautiful is that when you are connected to your heart, and go past the ego, you can find all you need. Peace, answers, connection…
But I still have so many questions. How can I get (and keep) in touch with my heart? By breath? By creativity? Nature? Forgiveness? How could I possibly forgive some people? What is my ‘Mission on Earth’? I know I am on the right track, how can I find out for sure? Ironically the answer to the last question probably is to stay in touch with your heart and notice the signs the universe gives me.
I have to say. This is a journey I’m on. I do not have many answers. My vision is not fully formed. I sometimes have no idea how to get out of my thoughts and acces my heart… This is just the beginning.
My beginning.
