For my visual research I wanted to find out my family tree. I was triggered by the dilapidated houses and the history of families. And so also mine. I found names and birth dates from someone who was born in 1607, that’s just 400 years ago …
After knowing this information I also wanted to see faces. My grandmother gave me some family photos from the beginning of the 20th century that I could copy and use for my work.
I poured candle wax over the photos, which I found surprisingly beautiful!
You can look at it in different ways: history that you want to keep in the wax, or history that is fading away. Solidified history.
In some places the photo is less visible than in other places. Sometimes you do not recognize the photo anymore.
